WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION (Mounjaro)

WEIGHT LOSS MEDICATION (Mounjaro) is currently not available for NHS prescription in Bolton/Greater Manchester.

We are receiving many requests to prescribe weight loss injections (Mounjaro) or similar. Greater Manchester ICB (the organisation responsible for overseeing NHS funding for practices in Bolton) has issued instructions that this medication cannot be prescribed for weight loss.

The website link below gives more information, including who may be eligible for this medication in the future. We do recognise that this is a frustrating situation for many patients and booking an appointment to speak about this will not change the outcome. The decision not to prescribe is NOT taken by the GPs / practitioners at the surgery – they have to follow the guidelines in place.

There are a number of our patients receiving Mounjaro (or similar) for their diabetes management – this is allowed on the NHS and will continue.

We also recognise that some patients are accessing prescriptions from private pharmacies or online providers. Please ensure you let your private provider know about any other medications you are taking. If you are receiving Mounjaro from a private provider AND taking the oral contraceptive pill or oral HRT, please contact us and book a medication review, as the oral contraceptive (or HRT) may not be as effective.

111 is the NHS non-emergency number. It’s fast, easy and free. Call 111 and speak to a highly trained adviser, supported by healthcare professionals. They will ask you a series of questions to assess your symptoms and immediately direct you to the best medical care for you.

NHS 111 is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

In case of a life-threatening emergency, please dial 999.

You can now see a GP or other healthcare professional during

– weekday evenings between 6.30pm and 8.00pm
– Saturdays between 9am and 5pm

To book an appointment, get in touch with us. You may be able to get an appointment on the same day if available. You may be offered an appointment at one of these alternative health centres:

– Tonge Moor Health Centre
– Crompton View Health Centre

Some appointments are held at Egerton and Dunscar Health Centre but are not with our regular GP’s.
Patients registered with our Practice can now make an appointment at the service by contacting reception on 01204 463110 or calling in to check on availability. We can make you an appointment, and you will be given information about where to attend and when.

This pledge guarantees that staff will be able to attend cancer screening appointments during work hours, if unable to get an appointment at a different time.

The ‘Bee Seen – Get Screened’ campaign is raising awareness of the three NHS cancer screening programmes through training, staff sessions and much more.
